'I'm going to turn up the heat on this mayor': Metcalfe calls for Pittsburgh Mayor Pedu
Pennsylvania State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe on Peduto: 'If he wants to change the law, tell him to get elected legislator instead of the mayor.'
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
A Republican state representative is moving to have Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto impeached after the Democratic mayor signed new gun legislation in the city this week.
"I'm going to turn up the heat on this mayor," Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, of Cranberry Township, said Thursday morning.
Metcalfe, who represents the 12th District, co-sponsored failed resolutions last year to get Supreme Court judges removed for redrawing election districts. Now, he wants to impeach Peduto.
Hours after Peduto signed the new gun restrictions, Metcalfe tweeted that he had asked an attorney to draft a resolution to impeach the mayor. Peduto later responded with a tweet of his own.
"When we have somebody who's in elected office, who swore an oath to defend the Constitution, and they willfully, brazenly, arrogantly violate that law because they don't agree with it to use the processes that are in place to change it, that's something that we can't let stand without challenge," Metcalfe said.
